Minister Says MoD Looking at Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Staff Instructed to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

A defense official has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the possible threats posed by Chinese-made cars, while staff have been advised to refrain from talking about secret matters in all cars.

Safety Advice for MoD Personnel

In a recent interview on a radio station, Luke Pollard commented on claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to talk about classified material while riding in China-made vehicles.

He explained that the ministry is “investigating” cars from China within its fleets, however noted that safety is a concern in all contemporary cars.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a secret level in any kind of car, because of the increasing risks of surveillance that exist in all vehicle, to restrict those confidential conversations in secure locations. That’s a wise and sensible thing for anyone worried about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to stop using every cars from China, Pollard replied: ‘That’s precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Broader Security Context

The revelation comes as reports from Norway and Denmark have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable China to disable buses and cause disruption to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship was reportedly directing laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” action by defence officials.

The broader security situation highlights the importance of strong protocols and vigilance in all areas of official operations, from transport use to communication practices.
