Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important official commented the incident left him speechless and required to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
